Metropolitan Aircraft Symposium

EUROAVIA Braunschweig announces the „Metropolitan Aircraft Symposium“ taking place from 1st to 6th of June 2014 co-organized by the Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL). You will have a week full of workshops, lectures, study trips and evening program.

To find information about travelling to Braunschweig, the accomodation, our generous sponsors and much more click the "Symposium" tab at the top!

The participation fee is only 50 Euro!

Preliminary program:

Sunday: Arrival

Monday - Thursday:

The program of the Symposium contains short lectures, workshops and excursions so that you can learn about the Metropolitan Aircraft research project and get to know Braunschweig from its aerospace point of view.

Excursions to local companies like the Aerodata company, Flight Calibration Services and Invent, DLR institutes and aerospace institutes of the TU Braunschweig will give a great insight in state of the art aerospace research and industry. Braunschweig offers a unique environment for aerospace research with its research testing facilities of DLR and TU e.g. flight simulators which you will get the chance to see and maybe even try out. Further more you will get to know the research aircraft of the DLR and TU Braunschweig.

In interactive workshops you will get the opportunity to develop your own ideas and solve tasks in topics which will be introduced in short lectures. Of course we will also have the legendary spirits night and final dinner.

Metropolitan Aircraft” is the english term for “Bürgernahes Flugzeug” which is a research project of Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL). We chose this research project for our event because it unites the fields of Flight Physics, Propulsion, Light Weight Structures, Flight Systems Technology and Air Traffic management. Therefore we get the chance to show you the expertise of the Technical University Braunschweig and the DLR which gives us many interesting topics due to it interdisciplinarity.

The Metropolitan Aircraft Research Project:

The goal of the research project is to develop basic technology for future commercial aircraft that will enable inter-European air transportation from small airports close to cities, providing efficient point-to-point connections. Therefore, the airplanes of tomorrow should

(a) have quiet, low-emission flight propulsion and new high-lift systems for short take-off properties

(b) have extremely light but highly durable structures that are easy to maintain

(c) be safe, economical, and environmentally friendly in flight

The project management for this research program is being provided by Prof. Dr.-Ing. P. Hecker (Institute of Flight Guidance, TU Braunschweig). “Metropolitan Aircraft”, which is co-financed by the research partners and the state of Lower Saxony, began as the first coordinated project of NFL in July 2009.
