About the TU Braunschweig

The Technische Universität Braunschweig is the oldest institute of technologie in Germany. Its cornerstone was already laid in the year 1745 with the Collegium Carolinum. Braunschweig, the »City of Science«, is rich in tradition and located right at the heart of »Europe’s most active research region«. The academic community comprises some 17,050 students and 3,381 university employees. The size of the campus is ideal: TU is able to offer a range of state-of the-art teaching and research facilities with a personal, close-knit atmosphere.

Aerospace research in Braunschweig

Based at the „Forschungsflughafen“ (research airport), the aerospace institutes of the TU Braunschweig cover a broad range of topics, from aerodynamics and jet propulsion, through lightweight structures and adaptronics, up to flight systems and flight guidance. Together with the institutes of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), they provide up-to-date knowledge and hands-on lab practice for their students in all areas of modern aerospace research.
With more than 1000 employed scientists and engineers, the TU Braunschweig and the DLR form one of the most capable centers for aviation research in Germany and Europe. Research airplanes, simulators, wind tunnels and several testing facilities, as well as the airport itself allow the researchers to conduct research at the edge of modern technology.
Accompanied by the Federal Aviation Office and several local companies, the Forschungsflughafen offers a unique network for interdisciplinarity and technology transfer.
